From Local to Cloud with MotherDuck
Learn how to build data workflows that run on your laptop, in the cloud, or across both using DuckDB and MotherDuck.
About MotherDuck
MotherDuck builds on DuckDB, and if you haven't played with DuckDB yet, you're missing out. It's fast, simple, and runs locally without any infrastructure setup. MotherDuck takes that and brings it to the cloud so teams can collaborate on the same data without losing what makes DuckDB great in the first place. Together they represent a new way of thinking about analytics: local speed with cloud-scale collaboration.
What I like about it is how it reimagines the data warehouse. No heavy centralized infrastructure, no massive setup cost. You query locally when that's enough, push to the cloud when you need to share or scale, and the experience stays the same throughout.
This is especially useful for engineers, analysts, and developers who are tired of spinning up infrastructure just to run a query. You remove a lot of the overhead and just work with the data.
We built a free lab around exactly that workflow, starting local with DuckDB, then moving to the cloud with MotherDuck. It shows you how the two fit together in practice, which is the fastest way to understand where this fits in your stack.
