Databricks is one of those platforms that keeps getting better, and the direction they're going with AI is super interesting. It started with Apache Spark and built from there. Today it's a full lakehouse platform covering data engineering, analytics, governance, and AI in one place. No stitching together five different tools to get a pipeline running. For data engineers that means fewer handoffs, clearer ownership, and systems that actually scale.

What I like about it: it's built on open standards. You're not locked into a proprietary stack you can't move off of. And it works across cloud providers, which matters a lot when you're building for real organizations with real constraints.

The area I find most exciting right now is how Databricks is closing the gap between data pipelines and AI workloads. You can build your pipelines, manage data quality and lineage, and train and deploy models, all on the same platform. That's a big deal when most teams are still running their data engineering and AI work in completely separate systems.
